I strongly oppose this policy! The street is public property and paid for by the residents of Orange--not just those who live on Devon. The homes on Devon Road all have two-car garages and driveways that can accommodate another two cars--they do not need the street parking! I live in an HOA development just next to Devon, and parking on Devon should be available for all. We already have two blocks nearby that have gone to permit parking (my granddaughter got a ticket for parking on Lilac!!!), and we do not need another street whose residents want to monopolize a public resource,. This Permit Parking should NOT BE ALLOWED!
I strongly oppose the request for permit parking on Devon Road. I don't think the adequate study was conducted by the city to determine whether there is an overflow of cars parking there. This seems that it's just based on complaints from house owners not wanting other people from parking in front of their homes. Many of us rely on public parking specially when we come home from work late at night. This is a nice neighborhood with families living here not criminals. I hope the city council does their due diligence and rejects this request.
I am against and strongly oppose the request for permit parking on both sides of Devon road. The individuals who park on Devon road are residents or visitors of residents who do not pose any safety concern to the homeowners or the public.
Parking permits is not the solution as it will just cause parking issues for other streets and residents. The homes on Devon road have large driveways and garages that can be seen fitting up to 3 or more cars. It isn’t right to restrict other guests or family members from being able to temporarily park in the street and visit their friends or family who may live in the surrounding condos or apartments but allow the homeowners to have guests park on Devon road if this request passes. It is unfair and unjust. Simply not the solution.
I oppose the request for permit parking. The houses on Devon road have large enough driveways and garages to park their own cars. It is selfish of them to want to restrict others of being able to park in PUBLIC streets. It is simply unjust and selfish of the single family homes in devon road to complain about parking when they have more than enough room in their own driveways.
I strongly oppose the request for permit parking on both sides of Devon Road for numerous reasons.
1) The houses have more than enough parking space in their driveways and garage, a luxury that we who live in the surrounding condos or apartments do not have.
2)Permit parking can create a barrier to access for visitors, service providers, and those who cannot afford permits. This might disproportionately affect lower-income residents or guests who rely on street parking.
3)Permit parking doesn't solve the root cause of parking issues but instead displaces the problem to nearby streets or areas, creating an uneven distribution of parking difficulties.
4) We all pay the same taxes to the city of orange to maintain the public streets.
5) There are many reasons why everyone should oppose this request, but the main concern is for the elderly and for those individuals who go to work before the sun comes. It is a safety and moral concern.
Parking is a vital public resource. We are all taxpayers and we pay to maintain all roads. By taking away parking you take away a resource that we all pay for and need.
There is no parking shortage for the residents of Devon Road. All the homes have large driveways that fit 2 to 3 cars plus an extra space in the garage. The residents have these resources available to park. There is no need to take away parking from everyone else.
There is nothing stopping the residents of Devon from having their guests park on Palmyra or Culver. This will make parking availability even worse for everyone else. The number of people that permit parking will negatively impact is significantly higher than those who benefit.
Property values for our HOA community and others will go down if parking is not available. The single family home owners already enjoy high home values and this permit parking request could hurt many people's financial futures.
If more streets become permit parking areas, then the elderly who park on the street will need to walk even further from their home which can raise the risk of injury if they have trouble walking.
. If more streets become permit parking areas, then late night workers will need to park further away from home at night where they could be put in dangerous situations.

I have lived in the neighborhood for over 15 years and oppose the request for permit parking. There are working families living here often times having more than 2-3 cars per household. The surrounding condos and apartments don't have large driveways to park cars, therefore we have to park on public streets. If we limit this public resource it will make it worse. We all just want to park close enough to our homes without having to walk too far. Please stop trying to keep us out.
I am a homeowner in one of the townhomes located on Palmyra Ave. and oppose the request for permit parking on Devon Road. The residents on Devon Road have ample parking for their vehicles. Their homes have large driveways along with large garages. There is no need to exclude other people from parking on a public street. Those of us living in townhomes do not have the luxury of having large driveways where we can park 3-4 cars at a time. We are all city of Orange residents paying taxes to have public streets maintained. We all need to have access to them. I want to be able to park my vehicle in a safe area specially at night. Please stop this modern day segregation.
I oppose this request for Peking permits. This will make me park farther from my apartment to get free parking. I work early morning and will endanger my life having to walk farther at 4 in the morning.
I oppose the request for permit parking on Devon from Palmyra to culver. I live nearby. There’s many apartment and townhomes in this area which has been this way for decades. Now with more permit parking we wont be able to park near our home. It is not the fault of apartment and townhome residents that we need our cars to be parked on the street. Yet we are being treated as intruders by the city and others. We are not intruders, we are your neighbors. Please do not allow more permit parking on Devon or anywhere else
Hi,
I have lived on Palmyra over 25 years. I have enjoyed walking in my neighborhood every night. I do not believe permit parking should be granted to those who consider themselves privileged because they live in a house rather than a townhouse . I have never felt so disappointed at my neighbors’ actions as I am now. One afternoon I parked in the start to visit a friend and one woman darted out at me, telling me that I couldn’t park on her street. I am a little confused at why she thinks she owns the street. The complex that I live in is filled with working professionals who pay taxes and are raising families or caring for their relatives. I am proud of our community and wish for the segregation to stop.
Hello,
I oppose this for as this will create more traffic and parking problems on the streets like Palmyra and Culver. The public roads are paid for by all tax payers in Orange. I know there are certain areas in Orange that are already permit only, these areas are close to the plaza in old town and they see an influx of visitors in that area. The people parking on Devon road are not patrons to any business, they are residents, or family members of residents, or care takers of residents, or the residents themselves. All residents of Devon road have access to very large driveways, some can hold 3-4 cars. If the residence of Devon Road get their wish to be permitted, it opens a slippery slope of other streets in the area to do the same thing. I am hoping the council will do the correct thing and reject this proposal for the residence that live in the area.
I live on Palmyra, and I would hate to see the parking situation on Culver and Palmyra get worse. Parking is a vital public resource. We are all taxpayers and we pay to maintain all roads. By taking away parking you take away a resource that we all pay for and need.
To whom it may concern,
I live in one of the townhouses among Palmyra and oppose of the request for permit parking on Devon road. We as taxpayers contribute to the upkeep of all roads in our community. Many families living here in our community have more than one car. This is because many of us have work, school and teens who need their own modes of transport. This parking permit would affect all those families who don’t have a parking driveway and need to park on the street. The houses on Devon Road have large driveways that allow them plenty of parking space. We should all be good neighbors and share our streets. Please have some empathy for families who work long hours and want to find parking so they can come home to their families at night. Thank you for taking your time to read this, I appreciate it.
To Whom it May Concern,
I am a home owner in the townhouse community of 1910 W. Palmyra Ave. I am against the request for permit parking on Devon Road. This action will permit residents on Devon Road to park on our streets— Palmyra and Culver without allowing surrounding residents to park on their street. As a taxpayer, I contribute to the upkeep of Devon Road and should therefore have access to this public good. In addition, this move to require permit parking is against families as many families who live in neighboring townhouses require more than two cars— such as families with teenage/adult children and families who care for elderly parents. Furthermore, this request is classist as the single family dwellings on Devon Road have very large driveways— many allowing up to 5 or 6 cars to park on them— and many of the surrounding residents and homeowners live in townhomes. The reasoning for this permit is to reduce the ability of residents and homeowners in the neighborhood to safely park their vehicles given that the residents on Devon Road have very large driveways and garages and do not need exclusive rights to the street parking. I oppose this request for permit parking as a homeowner and taxpayer in this neighborhood.

Dr. Meagan Varona

This isn't right. The residents have enough parking. This is further discrimination of those who live in places without ample parking.
