I am the owner/operator of Holiday Skate Center, a roller skating rink, located at 175 N. Wayfield. Our facility has provided family oriented recreation at this location since 1973. Holiday Skate Center has a large parking lot with more than 100 parking spaces. However, our parking is sometimes insufficient for the numbers of patrons attending at peak times. This most often occurs on weekends, but can also occur some weekday evenings. When this occurs, patrons unable to find parking in our lot are able to find street parking on N. Wayfield. This is the only available public parking for several blocks. Implementation of permit parking on Wayfield would effectively preclude our patrons from utilizing this public parking when our lot is at capacity. It is my understanding that the proposal to add Wayfield to the City's permit parking program is intended to help alleviate a shortage of parking spaces for residents of the adjacent Orangewood Villa Apartments. However, not adding Wayfield to the permit program would in no way prevent residents of this apartment community from using the public parking. It would only serve to make it available to anyone who might need it, which in some instances would be patrons of our facility. This would be a more equitable way of managing the limited public parking available in the vicinity for the benefit of everyone, not just the residents of Orangewood Villa Apartments. For the reasons outlined, I respectfully ask that Council Members reject the proposal to add N. Wayfield to the permit parking program.
