8.6. Introduction and First Reading of Ordinance Nos. 08-24 and 09-24 amending Chapter 2.10 of Title 2 of the Orange Municipal Code relating to campaign contribution limits and contributions from committees. (Continued from April 23, 2024)
I am submitting a comment to Agenda item 8.6.
I oppose all 3 items under this proposal. Our city made a change to district elections, this alone should reduce the cost of running an election. I realize some costs have gone up, such as postage and printing, but none of these costs should be too severe. There are less people to reach, and we need to not increase the limit. The number of big donors, i.e. over $1000, rarely make up the big percentage of any local campaign, so keep the limit to $1000. If a person is running a campaign for mayor, maybe it is appropriate to increase the amount to $1200.
Thank you for your consideration,
