4.1. Public Hearing to consider an ordinance establishing Single Room Occupancy housing as a permitted land use for certain qualifying properties and finding of CEQA exemption.
As a long-time resident of Orange concerned about the current and future affordability of housing in our city, I encourage the Planning Commission members to oppose this resolution in order to maintain and enhance opportunities for SRO's that can support low-income residents and temporary guests. We currently have a housing shortage for very low and extremely low-income residents and this resolution will only make matters worse.
I encourage the Planning Commission to broaden the opportunities for SRO’s in the city. The RHNA target for very low and low income housing has consistently not been met. SRO’s can help meet the target but more opportunities to convert and build them are needed. New SRO units should be allowed as well as additional sites.
