5.2. Discuss potential budget savings proposed by a City of Orange labor group for consideration in the ongoing fiscal planning and operational adjustments. (Dumitru)
Two-thirds of the City's FY 26 General Fund expenditures are devoted to Police (41%) and to Fire (27%). Those are extraordinarily high percentages compared to other Orange County cities. The City Council NEEDS to obtain proposals immediately to contract with the Orange County Fire Authority and the Orange County Sheriff. Santa Ana and Garden Grove have both have realized millions of dollars of savings by contracting with OCFA. Ignoring all the substantial cost savings available by joining the regional fire and/or police services in the middle of this fiscal crisis would be negligence on our City Council's part. As a resident of Orange, I request each Council member's support simply to obtain proposals from the OCFA and Sheriff so you and we will know what savings could be achieved.
Any labor concessions are welcome and needed, but Mr Dumitru the true savings come from safety employees. Why not contract out fire to OCFA and police with Sheriffs -Dept? You worked at OCFA and know first hard what a quality agency they are and they would be able to save the residents millions of dollars from day one! Why not include this in the consultant evaluation you paid thousands of dollars? Do you not want to have the residents know how much could be saved? The residents deserve to have ALL the information too so that we can keep you all accountable.
Do the right thing and contract out where I makes sense!
