Dear Members of the Orange Planning Commission,

I am writing to voice my opposition to Rexford Industrial’s proposed warehouse at 2411 N. Glassell St.

We have lived in the neighborhood just north of the site for 28 years. The facility featured heavily in our decision making when buying our home. Ultimately we decided that it was a quiet business building. The activity was limited to standard business hours and normal passenger car traffic. The people came in the morning, worked their day and left at normal hours. They did their work while we were off at our jobs. The evenings were quiet, the weekends were quiet. The facility behaved as a good neighbor.
To change that quiet office building to a warehouse facility running 24/7 with 36 loading bays is a massive change to the living environment. It will be disruptive, it will have negative health consequences and it will never go back to being a quiet facility. I wouldn’t buy a home in a neighborhood next to a trucking facility and many other people would feel the same way. There are rules that prevent me or my neighbors from making noise all day and all night. Those rules should extend to the businesses that immediately border housing communities. Those businesses should be required to be good neighbors.

I respectfully urge the Planning Commission to deny the project and to also implement regulations to safeguard the community by limiting any future development to projects that are similar to the existing business use.

I hope that you will listen to the residents of Orange and choose the interests of the people over the interests of a corporation.

    Thank you,
    Dan Wayland

Dear Members of the Orange Planning Commission,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed nearly 300,000-square-foot warehouse at 2411 N. Glassell Street.
I live in Orange, and one of the things I value most about our community is its small-town appeal, charm, and character. Orange has a unique identity because of its neighborhoods, mature trees, and community feel. We should protect that identity rather than move toward impersonal Inland Empire-style logistics development.
This project would dramatically intensify the site with a massive warehouse, 36 loading docks, increased truck traffic, diesel emissions, noise, and a building nearly twice the height of the existing office buildings. It would also remove mature landscaping that currently provides an important buffer for nearby residents.
State policymakers already recognize warehouse adjacency to residential neighborhoods as a serious public health and planning issue. The fact that an impact may be considered “below threshold” does not mean it’s insignificant to the residents who will experience the truck traffic, noise, diesel emissions, and other impacts every day and every night, 24 hours per day.
I am also deeply concerned that the project is being reviewed through a Mitigated Negative Declaration rather than a full-scale Environmental Impact Report (EIR). Given the size of this project, its proximity to homes, truck activity, air quality and noise concerns, tree removal, and potential cumulative impacts, I believe a full EIR is warranted.
I respectfully ask the Planning Commission to require a full-scale EIR before this project moves forward and to carefully consider whether this level of industrial development is appropriate for this location.
I am not opposed to responsible development. I am opposed to development that comes at the expense of the character, safety, health, and quality of life of the people who already call Orange home.
Please preserve what makes Orange special. We do not want our community to become another Inland Empire-style logistics hub.
Thank you for listening to the residents of Orange and considering the long-term future of our community.
    Sincerely,
    Deborah Wayland

Dear Chair and Members of the City of Orange Planning Commission,
I have lived in Orange my entire life. 8 years ago I purchased my home near Fletcher Elementary. I specifically wanted a home near a school, with a safe neighborhood where I could raise my children. I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed 2411 North Glassell Street Warehouse project.
Replacing the existing office buildings with a warehouse featuring 36 loading docks poses major risks to our community. The site is a few feet from Fletcher Elementary school. Many students walk to school and back. In addition, we already have high traffic in the mornings when people are headed to work and school. I can only imagine how much worse traffic will get if we have semi-trucks constantly driving by.

Many of my neighbors are elders who are well into their 70’s and 80’s. The high amount of diesel will then deteriorate the air quality, increase gas emissions and create pollution that our most vulnerable community members do not need.
I don’t see how this type of project will benefit any Orange residents or the city as a whole. I respectfully urge the Planning Commission to deny the project and protect our community.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and service to City of Orange.
    Sincerely,
    Rocio Gomez
